Consumer law aims to protect consumers while they deal with business entrepreneurs. Ralph Nader, an american activist and lawyer, helped to develop this field of law in the United States, in the automobile industry. Governments then joined in and passed laws specifying rules governing consumer consent and safety. In Quebec,The Consumer Protection Act, the Civil Code and other laws codify certain rules that differ from usual contract law in as much as contract law usually protects freedom to consent to a contract between the parties who have atteined the age of majority, if the contract respects the usual formalities. Consumer protection law is a set of rules aiming to protect the individuals against certain forms of sales.
